What is Google Public DNS?

Google Public DNS is a free, global Domain Name System (DNS) resolution service, that you can use as an alternative to your current DNS provider.
To try it out:
  • Configure your network settings to use the IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your DNS servers or
  • Read our configuration instructions.
If you decide to try Google Public DNS, your client programs will perform all DNS lookups using Google Public DNS.

Why does DNS matter?

The DNS protocol is an important part of the web's infrastructure, serving as the Internet's phone book: every time you visit a website, your computer performs a DNS lookup. Complex pages often require multiple DNS lookups before they start loading, so your computer may be performing hundreds of lookups a day.

Why should you try Google Public DNS?

By using Google Public DNS you can:

Google Wave. Got it.

I got my google wave invite about a week ago now. here are my thoughts on it as of now.
It is nice that I can just click and drag media (pictures and video) to it instead of the old ways. the way the messaging is managed and how you add people to the convo instead of sending back and forth is really nice esp. with larg group emails.
This program is still very BETA so it is not really ready to use full time. but, I can see it going full time soon! And it will really make street market when you can utilize it to its fullest with every other social program as a one stop shop. I think that the Apps that you can add to this program make this very possible in the near future. it gets overwhelming to keep up with facebook, twitter, email, blogger, wordpress, linkedin, and chatting...and so much more. If you can put all of them in one place to keep up with life would at least be a little easier to keep track of.
As Jordan Liggitt put it "if anyone were to do it, it would be google"

Higher Tech NC Blog

HigherTechNC.com is here to serve you. Why take the time and effort to carry your laptop to a  shop where someone you don’t know will work on it  and possibly treat it carelessly? Poor handling of computers can effect future use and lifespan of equipment.
Computer failure in most cases are due to improper maintenance, improper use, or improper setup.  A computer will last a lot longer if it is setup with the proper software from the start.  Most repairs require reformatting because the system was not set up defensively. To have a defensive windows computer means using the most effective virus/spyware software – not necessarily the most popular or most expensive. I personally use free ware virus and spyware protection on my personal laptop. also, Having your users set up properly and Keeping the computer updated is important as well.
Home networking can be very confusing depending on the setup. I offer wireless setup as well as wired retro fit wiring. please visit our website for more information at HigherTechNC.com!

Google Chrome OS Comes out this week

although, not every computer will be able to use Chrome due to driver compatibility it is said to come out for public use this week.

“We expect Google will be careful with messaging around the launch, and endorse a small set of devices for installation. EEE PC netbooks, for example, may be one set of devices that Google will say are ready to use Chrome OS. There will likely be others as well, but don’t expect to be able to install it on whatever laptop or desktop machine you have from day one. Google has previously said they are working with Acer, Adobe, ASUS, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, and Toshiba on the project.” (Google Chrome OS To Launch Within A Week, Michael Arrington on November 13, 2009)

Micro Projector

Maximom PC did an artical on this picoprojector last month feturing the Nikon Coolpix S1000PJ which had this micro projector built into it so that you could view your pictures and videos projected from your camera.
The idea is much like the idea of having a camera on your cell phone. when it was first thought of people thought “why do you need a camera on your phone?” now people expect a camera on the phone. people are wondering why you would need a projector on a mobile device. but, when you think about business presentation on the go that you can keep in your back pocket and have a 40″ presentation in HD on the fly. or friends and family watching movies and showing their pictures or even website navigation or video games using your PSP or mobile smart phone type devises with this intigrated projector. It becomes clear what kind of potential this kind of technology has to offer. It is in the early stages still but, just like anything else it will become better and better and soon I could see it being included in laptops for additional HD large displays and little hand held universal projectors that could be connected to just about anything.
